From charming praline shop to world-renowned chocolate provider

In 1956, Walter Gartner and his wife Renée started a charming praline shop in Borsbeek, Antwerp. Their love for each other was just as great as their love for chocolate. The Gartner family's Belgian chocolates were so tasty that they enjoyed international fame as The Belgian.

Affordable Belgian quality chocolate products for everyone, worldwide

The intense love for chocolate that typified the Gartner family can still be felt in our corridors. All this thanks to top executive and owner of The Belgian Chocolate Group, Marc Pauwels. He took over the company in 1996 with huge growth plans. Indeed, Marc wanted to offer his diverse customers a wide range of chocolate. That is why he also took the Koetjesreep and Starbrook Airlines brands under his wing.

Our guiding principle is that every link in our production chain deserves equal attention. From the hard-working cocoa farmer in West Africa to the consumer feasting on our products.

Chairman of the Supervisory Board, The Belgian Chocolate Group

Sustainably produced fair trade chocolate

We have a heart for every member of the chocolate chain. That is why we are already working with fair trade chocolate where possible. Our chocolate is sourced correctly and growers receive a competitive price for their raw materials.

We also follow the Beyond Chocolate agreements, with which we support the ambition to use only sustainable chocolate, support farmers' livelihoods and tackle deforestation.
